StandUp Wireless is a wireless service provider operated by Global Connection Inc. of America. It participates in the federal Lifeline program and also sells prepaid wireless plans to customers who do not qualify for Lifeline.
Eligible Lifeline customers may receive monthly talk, text and mobile data without a regular monthly bill under the available plan. StandUp also supports compatible unlocked phones, number transfers, paid top-ups and customer account management.
This StandUp Wireless review examines the provider’s current service, eligibility rules, network, phone options, application process and limitations. It does not promise approval, a particular phone, a tablet, a delivery date or uninterrupted coverage.
What Is StandUp Wireless?
StandUp Wireless is an Eligible Telecommunications Carrier in areas where it is authorized to provide Lifeline-supported service. Lifeline is a federal benefit that helps qualifying low-income consumers obtain discounted phone or internet service.
The Lifeline benefit is applied to the monthly service. A phone supplied by a provider is a separate promotional or provider-funded offer and is not guaranteed by the federal government.
StandUp’s current public disclosures state that available Lifeline plans include at least 1,000 voice minutes, unlimited text messages and 4.5GB of mobile data. Offers may differ by state and may not be available at every address.
StandUp Wireless Pros and Limitations
- Free monthly Lifeline service for qualifying households.
- At least 1,000 minutes, unlimited texts and 4.5GB data under the standard disclosure.
- Uses the T-Mobile wireless network.
- Supports compatible unlocked 4G LTE and 5G phones.
- Customers may keep an eligible existing phone number.
- Optional minutes and data top-ups are available.
- Prepaid plans are available for customers who do not qualify for Lifeline.
- A specific phone model is not guaranteed.
- A current $10.01 tablet offer could not be confirmed from a live enrollment offer.
- Approval time depends on verification and documentation.
- Coverage and speed vary by location and network conditions.
- High-speed data is limited by the selected plan.
- Lifeline service requires continued eligibility and account usage.
StandUp Wireless Lifeline Plan
StandUp’s current public disclosure describes a Lifeline plan with a minimum of:
- 1,000 voice minutes
- Unlimited text messages
- 4.5GB of mobile data
The provider may display a different allowance in certain states or under a specific local offer. Enter your ZIP code on the official website and review the exact plan before submitting personal information.
Optional Top-Ups
Customers who use their included allowance can purchase additional service. At the time of this review, StandUp’s official top-up page lists options beginning at $5.
| Current listed price | Current listed allowance | Validity |
|---|---|---|
| $5 | 1GB data, 100 minutes and unlimited texts | 30 days |
| $6 | Unlimited minutes and unlimited texts | 30 days |
| $10 | 3GB data, 500 minutes and unlimited texts | 30 days |
| $15 | 5GB data, 500 minutes and unlimited texts | 30 days |

Pricing note: Top-up prices and allowances can change. Confirm current details inside the official StandUp account or top-up page before purchasing.
Does StandUp Wireless Provide a Free Phone?
StandUp states that a free phone may be offered on a promotional basis to qualifying customers. The provider reserves the right to change or remove the offer.
Applicants should not expect a specific Android phone, iPhone, storage size or 5G model unless those details are shown in the final enrollment offer.
- Check the exact model displayed during enrollment.
- Confirm whether the device is new or refurbished.
- Review any payment, shipping or replacement terms.
- Save a screenshot of the selected offer.
- Do not rely on a third-party promise of a particular iPhone.
Is the $10.01 StandUp Wireless Tablet Still Available?
Older StandUp pages advertised an 8-inch tablet for a $10.01 customer contribution under the Emergency Broadband Benefit or Affordable Connectivity Program.
The Affordable Connectivity Program ended on June 1, 2024 because additional funding was not provided. A past EBB or ACP tablet advertisement should therefore not be treated as proof of a current StandUp Wireless tablet offer.
A current tablet should only be described as available when it appears on StandUp’s live enrollment, account or device page with current price and eligibility terms.
Can You Bring Your Own Phone?
Yes. StandUp Wireless supports bring-your-own-device service for compatible phones.
Most unlocked GSM 4G LTE or 5G phones may work, but compatibility must be checked using the device’s IMEI number. A compatibility result does not prove that the phone is unlocked.
Contact the carrier that locked the phone if it is still restricted. StandUp cannot normally unlock a device that was locked by another wireless company.
What Network Does StandUp Wireless Use?
StandUp Wireless currently states that its service uses the T-Mobile nationwide wireless network.
Customers may receive 4G LTE or 5G service where the assigned SIM card, device and local network support it. Owning a 5G-capable phone does not guarantee a 5G signal at every location.
Network speed may also decrease during congestion or after the customer reaches the high-speed data allowance included in the plan.
Who Qualifies for StandUp Wireless Lifeline?
Eligibility is normally based on household income or participation in an approved assistance program. The National Verifier or applicable state process determines whether the applicant qualifies.
Common qualifying programs include:
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also called SNAP
- Medicaid
- Supplemental Security Income, or SSI
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
- Veterans Pension or Survivors Benefit
- Approved Tribal assistance programs for eligible Tribal-land residents
Income-based qualification generally requires household income at or below 135% of the applicable Federal Poverty Guidelines. The dollar limit depends on household size and the current annual guidelines.
Does a Pell Grant qualify someone for Lifeline?
A Federal Pell Grant is not a general standard Lifeline qualifying program.
Under the Safe Connections Act, an eligible survivor who has pursued a line separation request and is experiencing financial hardship may qualify temporarily through additional routes. Those special survivor routes can include receiving a Federal Pell Grant in the current award year.
A student should not be told that a Pell Grant automatically qualifies every applicant for ordinary Lifeline service.
Documents You May Need
Some applicants are verified automatically. Others may be asked to provide proof of identity, address, income or participation in a qualifying program.
A qualifying-program document should generally show:
- The applicant’s name or qualifying household member’s name
- The name of the qualifying assistance program
- The government agency or organization issuing the document
- A recent issue date or valid benefit period
Use clear, complete and readable files. Do not crop out the name, program, date or issuing authority. Submit sensitive documents only through the provider’s official enrollment system or the official Lifeline National Verifier.
How to Apply for StandUp Wireless
- Check local availability: Enter your ZIP code on the official StandUp Wireless website.
- Review the plan: Check the included minutes, texts, data, network and any device offer.
- Enter accurate information: Use your full legal name, date of birth and residential address as shown on official records.
- Complete Lifeline verification: Follow the National Verifier or applicable state eligibility process.
- Provide documents when requested: Upload only the documents needed to resolve the verification issue.
- Review the final offer: Confirm the service plan, phone or SIM details and any payment before submitting.
- Save confirmation information: Keep the application reference, screenshots and provider emails.
- Activate through official instructions: Follow the instructions included with the package or contact StandUp support.
There is no legitimate shortcut that bypasses identity, household or eligibility verification. A clean application can reduce avoidable errors, but it cannot guarantee instant or same-day approval.
Can You Keep Your Current Phone Number?
StandUp advertises number-transfer support. Keep your existing service active until the transfer is completed.
You may need the current carrier’s account number, transfer PIN and matching account information. Incorrect information can delay or prevent the transfer.
How to Keep Lifeline Service Active
StandUp states that Lifeline customers must use the service at least once during each 30-day period.
Qualifying usage may include:
- Making or answering a voice call
- Sending a text message
- Using mobile data
- Purchasing additional service
If the account is inactive for 30 days, StandUp may send an inactivity notice. The customer normally receives a limited period to use the service before being removed from Lifeline.
Customers must also recertify when instructed and report changes that make the household ineligible.
StandUp Wireless Recertification
Lifeline customers generally need to confirm continued eligibility once each year unless USAC can verify eligibility automatically.
StandUp lists the following recertification methods:
- Online through LifelineSupport.org
- By phone through the Lifeline recertification hotline
- By mail when USAC sends a recertification form
California and Texas customers may have separate state instructions. Follow the notice sent for the specific account rather than relying on a general guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is StandUp Wireless really free?
Eligible Lifeline customers may receive a qualifying monthly plan without a regular monthly service bill. Optional top-ups, replacement devices, prepaid service and other purchases can require payment.
Does StandUp Wireless guarantee a free phone?
No specific phone model is guaranteed. StandUp may offer a promotional free phone to qualifying customers, but availability and inventory can change.
Can I get a $10.01 tablet from StandUp Wireless?
Older StandUp pages advertised a $10.01 tablet through EBB or ACP-related offers. ACP ended on June 1, 2024. Do not assume the offer remains active unless it appears in the current official enrollment process.
Does StandUp Wireless use T-Mobile or Verizon?
StandUp currently states that its service uses the T-Mobile wireless network. Coverage and available network technology depend on location and device compatibility.
Can I use my own phone?
Yes. Most unlocked and compatible GSM 4G LTE or 5G phones may work. Check the IMEI through StandUp’s official compatibility tool before relying on BYOD.
How fast does StandUp approve applications?
There is no guaranteed approval time. Processing depends on whether identity, address, income and program participation can be verified automatically or require supporting documents.
Does a Pell Grant qualify me for StandUp Wireless?
A Pell Grant is not a standard Lifeline qualification for the general public. It may be relevant under special Safe Connections Act rules for eligible survivors who meet that program’s requirements.
Can I keep my current phone number?
Number transfer may be available. Keep the old account active and obtain the correct account number and transfer PIN before starting the process.
How often must I recertify?
Lifeline customers generally recertify once each year unless eligibility is verified automatically. Follow the official USAC or state notice sent for the account.
Final Verdict
StandUp Wireless may be a practical Lifeline provider for eligible households that have suitable T-Mobile coverage and need basic monthly talk, text and mobile data.
Its strongest features are free qualifying monthly service, BYOD support, number transfer options and the ability to purchase additional data or minutes when needed.
The main caution is device marketing. A free phone may be promotional and inventory-dependent, while old $10.01 tablet pages should not be treated as a current offer after the end of ACP.
Before enrolling, confirm the plan, network coverage, device, total price and eligibility requirements displayed for your ZIP code. Do not rely on promises of instant approval, a guaranteed iPhone, a fixed tablet price or a guaranteed shipping date.
